Memmingen Airport (FMM), also known as Allgäu Airport, is a small but growing international airport located about 115 kilometers (71 miles) west of Munich. While it’s not technically in Munich, it’s marketed as a secondary airport for the Bavarian capital—especially by budget airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air. Known for its low-cost flights and shorter queues, Memmingen is a popular arrival point for travelers looking to save on airfare while exploring southern Germany.

Despite its distance from the city, getting from Memmingen Airport to Munich is straightforward with several convenient and affordable transport options.

Take the Allgäu Airport Express to Munich

Taking the Allgäu Airport Express is, by far, the easiest way to get to and from Memmingen Airport. This is a direct shuttle bus service that picks up or drops off to Seidlstr. 3A, which is directly next to the Munich Main Station (Hauptbahnhof).

The trip should take around 1 hour and 20 minutes, but make sure to allot more time in case there is traffic. This is Munich after all! Buses have different schedules depending on the time of year, but they generally leave every hour or so. You can check their website for an exact timetable.

As of May 2025, tickets for the Allgäu Airport Express cost 22€ for adults and 10€ if you buy them with cash on the bus (no reservation needed). However, you can save TONS of money if you purchase your ticket online in advance. These tickets start at just 9.90€ for adults, so it’s a great deal if you can plan ahead. Ticket sales online are possible until 1 hour before departure.

Take a FlixBus to Munich

Another option is to take a FlixBus from Munich to Memmingen Airport. This is also a direct service that takes roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes.

As with all FlixBuses, the FlixBus to and from the city center leaves from the Bus Station (or ZOB). This is very close to the Main Station, which makes it easy for people staying in the old part of town or anywhere else in Munich.

The only downside is that the buses do not travel as often as the Allgäu Airport Express. And prices can greatly fluctuate depending on demand. But in general, if you book early enough, you can snag a seat on the bus for around 11€ one-way.

Hire a Taxi from Memmingen to Munich

If money isn’t a concern, you can always take a taxi from Memmingen to Munich. This won’t really save you time (your trip will still be around 1 hour and 15-30 minutes), but it can be a comfortable and convenient option. There is a taxi stand outside the airport who will charge you anywhere from €190–€250 for a one-way trip.

What About the Train?

While we don’t recommend this option, it is possible to use public transportation to get from Memmingen Airport to Munich (or vice versa). However, it’s extremely complicated, time-consuming, and requires a mix of trains, taxis, and/or shuttles.

But if this is something you want to do, you’ll need to first take the Regional Train 72 (RE72) or an ECE train to Memmingen city center. From there, you’ll need to need to make your way to the airport, which is roughly a 15 minute drive. You can take a taxi or book the Memmingen Airport City Shuttle which costs 3.50€ and leaves from the bus station near the train station.

Staying Near the Memmingen Airport

If you have an early morning or late arrival flight and don’t want to deal with traveling during odd hours, you can book a hotel near the Memmingen Airport. Unfortunately, you don’t have too many options close by. You can stay at the FMM Hostel or the Berger’s Park Airporthotel, both of which are a short walk from the main terminal.
